In so doing I learned close reading (the rules are hard), statistics (you need to understand probability to play these games well), and pretty much everything a 14-year-old can know about modern warfare (that's a lot). I spent hundreds of hours learning to play them and playing them (often by myself I played both sides). When I was a kid I hated school but I loved these games. These games, and especially the ones by SPI, were incredibly important for the course of my life.
